166 Nav System...

Can anyone advise if similar problem and resolve on the 166 ?
Nav system is ok running 3 to 4 days consecutive, then....
Without warning, (when in use) screen is suddenly dark and up comes a message relay = "CD is upside down" and then it's impossible to use the system. Is this a coded dealer message for identification of problem ?
Or, how do I interpret this ?
After some hours (may'be 12-20hrs) system is ok and works normally
It's a very frustrating problem
Is there a "cure", or is it time for a cold beer to dampen the frustration
Cheers, N.

Re: 166 Nav System...

Only on an Alfa could this happen. Mine tells me the aircon is faulty contact the dealer, then proceeds to work fine blowing freezing cold air!!!

Time for a cold beer i think!

Neil

Ive had this message a couple of times in the last 3 and a half years and of course the disc isn't upside down as it works fine before and after...perhaps it needs a wee clean...the laser reader that is.

nothing to worry about as is MLC's Contact dealer message.

Thanks Pomeo !
What do you suggest cleaning with ?
Dry cloth, or some form of cleaning solution ?
Suppose the 'Laser Reader' is easy to access....
Ciao Neil

Re: 166 Nav System...

You can buy a lens cleaning kit, which is a cd with a number of small brushes underneath. You put a cleaning solution on the brushes, play it in your system, and the lens is cleaned as the disc spins.

Re: 166 Nav System...

Is this the same bit of kit you can use on the home hifi / cd player ?
If so purchased from the local electrical store ?
Thanks N.

didn't work for me, tried 2 different ones - but try it for the sake of £5.

Only way is to get physical with it using the IPA & camera blower brush.
