Re: Oh no! Heading for the dark side.

That will be the third 166 V6 owner in the past month or so going to 156 JTD power - The other two are happy. PM Mitch166 if you want an honest opinion.

All the best

Re: Oh no! Heading for the dark side.

Already had his thoughts when I posted a question on 156 lounge. Didn wanna let go, especially as had just got her exactly how I wanted, but 25 mile each way 5 days a week as opposed to 6 miles each way twice a week says it all really. Going to a good forum member home so not all is lost. All my hard work will be appreciated.

Cheers Pud, purchase not done yet, if as described, it should be a good buy. Spoke to the tech who's looked after it for the past 2 years and got the real low down and it's promising.

Sounds good - I should have known you would have your research in the bag!

Convince me why I should go for a deisel then - Thinking Brera 2.4 or 3.2!?

I'd keep your 166 Ti mate, its a beauty. "Upgrading" to a Brera would be a waste of your money IMO

I was idly dreaming about a Brera (there is a 3.2 Q4 for 17K on piston heads Its good daydreaming material. its also an import so I think the goverment can give an offical CO2 figure so its on the old tax system.)

Anyway this machine was worth 27K not that long ago and now is 17K so buy this time someone else buys it and keeps it a couple years what is it going to be worth? 7K?

When Alfa switch to RWD I think that they are going to sell like hotcakes and leave the secondhand FWD market high and dry.

Here is the advert

Still think that this generation of new Alfas will take a depreation hit bacause of the new platform.

Re: Oh no! Heading for the dark side.

That Q4 is left hand drive.

Even if we do see a RWD Alfa it's too far away to have ant effect on the current range. I also think that too much is made of RWD these days, the traditional advantages over FWD get less and less with all the new technology incorporated into the modern car.

Re the Brera Dougie, i am driving a brand new 2.4 JTD SV at the moment while my 156 is having some minor issues sorted. Had it for nearly 2 weeks now and I love it. The handling is superb. it's not a quick as it looks, but it's quick enough once you get the turbo spinning! Very well built, give any German built car a run for it's money, and the boot is more useful than I thought it would be. Doors are huge so care is needed when parking! if you don't like the limelight, don't get a Brera! Every time I fill up people want to know about the car and it turns heads where ever it goes. You would miss the space in the 166 though!

Re: Oh no! Heading for the dark side.

i dont want to upset 156 owners but i just couldnt contemplate switching to a 156(GTA aside) having owned a 166 the one i drove was a huge disapointment compared to my 166, the engine was great(2l t spark) but the interior was a let down after the 166's excelent interior, and the road and engine noise was quite intrusive compared to the 166, and i just dont think the 156 is as special as the 166. its a lot more common on the roads and is looking a little dated when compared to the 159. the 166 still looks great because its never been replaced so we have nothing to compare it to.

im sure 156 owners will be just as passionate about the 156 and will have the opposite view from me, but i prefer the 166 simple as that.

Re: Oh no! Heading for the dark side.

Overall Jabber I agree with you. The worst part about changing from the 166 to the 156 was the moment I first got in it! Compared to the 166 the interior feels very low rent. Thats not a shock though, the 166 was the flagship of the range and had the price tag to match. However once you drive the 156, you can forgive it that. It's such a fun car to drive, you really feel part of the car, much like my Alfas of old. I felt I had no choice but to change from a 166 as fuel costs are becoming so stupid now. I do miss the class of the 166 with out a doubt, but the 156 does otherthings so much better. Neither car is better, they are just designed to achieve different things.

Re: Oh no! Heading for the dark side.

Well, having put a deposit down on a 156 jtd last night - mica black with tan leather and carbon console, it did not feel low rent at all and would agree with Mitch's comments about feeling part of the car, and the 166 felt very big after. Would have to say IMHO of course that I prefered the angled towards the driver aspect of the dash/console.

156 is a fun car and the JTD is a fine engine. I have never driven a 166 however but I am sure you will enjoy your 156. Best of luck
