New to 166

Hi Lads I just bought a 166 its been a while since iv been on any alfa forums I used to have a 156 2.5 V6 so I got the alfa bug
Its a 2000 but only a litre with low milage and belts just done. Got a small bit of tidying up to do on the body due to a poor work done before buy my main problem is with the ICS "I know another one", It shows noting on the screen at all its just black and there is no radio working either I got the car for a good price so I took it with the problems. Does any of you guys have any segestions on whats wrong and what I can do. Thanks Joe.

Re: New to 166

Hello joe and welcome to the 166 forum. Have a search for ics problems. Nothing at all on the ICS could be just about anything! It could be a wire/power lead that has disconnected itself or the unit could be completely shot! There is a thread on removal of the ics unit to check for loose wires etc.

Apart from this the 166 is wonderful car that attracts attention wherever it goes. What colour is yours/does it have leather etc?

Re: New to 166

Hi Joe,

Welcome A 2.0 I take it - the did not do a 1.0

Nothing on ICS! - Obvious one is the "dark" button which intentionally makes screen black if you want to reduce clutter when driving at night.

If not that then I would check fuses first. Is heating working? - If it is then possibly just a blown screen. Screen can be replaced on its own but probably easier to source a second hand unit.

Good luck

Good thinking dougie. Could be a blown fuse! I remember seeing one of those car restoration shows on tv once and Mike Brewer had a car with a power sunroof that wouldn't open. Turns out it was nothing more than blown fuse!!

Re: New to 166

Thanks for your replies lads, Its black with black momo leather really suprised how comfortable those seats are, heating aircon works fine directional flaps are all ok i just cant see what Im at. the buttons all light up too. I done a search on them and removed the ICS all was fine with the wires or as far as I could see at least. what im thinking my self but still only guessing is that the screen is shot and it needs a security code for the radio but I really dont know. All the fuses under the dash looked fine and same with the one in the ICS. Is there any other fuses relating to it anywhere? Also I was looking for the becker number on it but could not find it at all, Is seimens and becker diffrent or is it all the one? exuse my stupitdy on this and once again thanks for your help.

Joe, mine is the black one but if you look carefully its actually very very dark purple. Ive got the cream leather but i agree they are certainly comfortable! It sounds like you screen has died!

Ya thats what I think, Is ebay the best place to get one? The cream leader is lovely with the black mine needs a profesionell compound badly and a spray job on the driver side and bumpers also but I got the car for 2600 euro with 62k miles and new belts and tensioners all round mechanically its perfect I just need to spend some cash on the cosmetics and of course get this ICS working asap.

Re: New to 166

New belt and tensioners is the main thing you have to look for on a twinspark engine. Everything else is a bonus. You will find that most 166 owners usually end up paying for cosmetic work on their cars. Remember that 166's will deteriorate rapidly if they are not looked after!

Re: New to 166

Hi again I just seen That the screen does work but is extremely dim so thats fine next problem and its the usual one its the ICS code. I dont have it, I took out the unit and its not on it and also there is no mention anywhere of becker on it. Its not stamped on the metal or anything.
All I got was on the sticker was.
MLFB: 5WK 78303
Serial: AR2030000135/01
Weight: 2890g
Date: 0004015
156.027.826
And under the top cover was a printed number which was:
2560 1246.224-284
Any Ideas to get the code without going to a dealer and waiting a life time, and o ya they want 47 euro plus vat here in Ireland which is a bit steep.

Thats what we meant about your screen being dead buddy!! Time for a new ICS with codes - would solve two issues in one go, there are a few ICS's floating about

No. that is expensive. £100 to £150 more like it. Keep looking, one will turn up.
