Alfa 166 will not rev
Hi, My Alfa 166 2.5 V6 will start but will not rev when I push the accelarator pedal. Any help would be appreciated. I have changed the Battery to a new one today but no improvement.
Ian.

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
Hi Ian
could be loads of things, but as it is a "fly by wire" set up. Look for electrical connection faults...
If in the end you find that you need a new "throttle potentiometer" I bought one on ebay last week not because i needed it but because it was a bargain... You are welcome to it.
PM me if you need it.

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
Ian,
How bad is it? It could also be a faulty MAF, that typically stops the engine pulling higher revs.

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
Hi Mike,
She will start and tick over but will not respond to the throttle other than a try and a splutter.

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
Hi Ian,
sorry no idea, I'd start with the peddle assembly though.... Pull back the cover over the peddles and look around. See if you can see the potentiometer....

Ian.
Common problem, when the MAF dies. Please change your air flow meter and then connect the car to the computer and calibrate.. this should sort out your problem.. did for me on my bella..
Cheers and good luck..

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
According to earlier posts, you can disconnect the MAF to see whether that is the fault - if the problem goes away, replace the MAF.

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
Hi Folks,
I have now disconnected the MAF with no improvement and I have removed the air intake tube to see if the throttle housing butterfly moves when the accelarator pedal is moved and it did not which leads me to believe that the fault is with the wiring between the accelarator pedal and the ECU and beyond. I will hang myself upside down in the drivers foot well to see if I can locate the potentiometer tommorow.
Does anybody have any idea where I can get a wiring diagram?
Many Thanks
Ian.

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
Hi Walker, I had the same problem last week, and was related to the potentiometer, as reprted by the OBD electronic analysis. My man.."the ALFA man magician" with a "puff" of a connector's cleaning spray did the trick.

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
Hi Folks,
I have now taken half of my car interia out and found that the throttle potentiometer is somewhere up in the passenger side dash.
But I have now noticed that the little red light on the dash that I thought was the seat belt warning light is actually a injector warning so I think I will need to contact an autotune guy to see if he can read the ECU fault to see what is my problem.
Ian.

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
Ian, out of curiosity, how did this end? Did you find the fault, and how did you fix it?

Re: Alfa 166 will not rev
it could be the throttle body assembly with the motor. they are electric and get the signal from the ecu. check with a multimet for signal from ecu to the throttle actuator motor, and press the accelerator and see if the reading changes. I have a couple of throttle body assemblies for sale, pm if you need one
