Fitting Timing Chain 2.2 JTS

Got a Brera 2.2 and timing chain has started to make a lot of noise. Wanting to get it fixed asap, anybody know of anybody, or any garages local to Huddersfield or West Yorkshire to do the job and what is an average price??? Thanks, Chris.

Has your engine management light come on?
Are you sure it's not just the variator (slight rattle on start-up)?
I wouldn't spend the dosh without getting code P0016 first.

Specialist price seems to be about 550, a regular garage should be able to do it for 400 (mine could).

Its not give me any warning lights at all. Not heard or read about the variator!?!?! Its normal on start up but when warms up it gets loud! My garage quoted me 500+ vat.

Its a loud rattle noise, 100% coming from the timing chain area!

That's unusual.
The first sign most of us have had that something might be wrong is the EML.
No other symptoms presented themselves prior to the EML.
Maybe BG is right - get rid. Yours could be something exceptional...

if you are going to keep the car, get the timing chain and everything else replaced Get it done at an Alfa specialist who know their Alfas though, or you will get the same old problem further down the line..

Make sure you get the problem correctly diagnosed rather than changing things willy nilly.
Any reputable garage should be able to do this.
Remember, the 2.2 is essentially a Vauxhall Vectra engine with some tweaks.

My chain wasn't making any noise as it stretched and showed the p0016 code / engine light. However I didn't wait too long to get it changed.
I had a rattle noise that kept getting louder over a couple of weeks within a year of getting the chain replaced, garage said it was the tensioner which I presume was supplied with the new timing chain kit, they ended up replacing it free.

Can the tensioner be replaced fairly easily, or is it still a big labour-intensive job like the chain?
I'd have thought it'd be the latter, so getting it replaced for free sounds amazing.

Tensioner is still inside. Engine cover to be stripped off and put back with new gasket.
My question is why tensioner lost ???...
Tensioner ( chain rail if I understand correct ) is operated by oil pressure nozzle.
So it is lost because of pinched nozzle may not produce enough pressure. This nozzle is also to be replaced.

Im unsure if this would apply, but there are many Corsa 1.0, 1.2 with chain rattling around with poor tensioners, from what I had been told the tensioners were nylon that can wear. I could be misinformed though!

Not sure, I imagine it would be the same process as doing the timing chain without actually removing and refitting a new chain.
I paid them to replace what they confirmed was a stretching chain that I understood was the original alfa part supplied in a kit, P0016 code was also showing with engine light and less engine performance. There were also the codes for the VVT Solenoids but I replaced those myself shortly after.

About 10 months after replacement I heard a quiet rattle at idle which eventually grew into a loud rattle throughout the rev range within two weeks, so I took it back and they told me to leave it there. 3 days later I picked it up and they told me the tensioner was faulty and they had replaced it at no charge. Whether or not that's the full story I don't know however. But it was fixed at no charge in accordance to the Aussie consumer law so can't really complain.

Do the later models (2008) still have a problem with the timing chain or is it all 2.2 JTS models?

I used to think that was the case for a good number of years.
Then it struck my '08.
Don't let it be a deal breaker though - it really isn't a big deal if it does happen. And it might never happen.
