Spider and US

What changes will Alfa make to the Spider before launching in the US in 2009? e.g. more power and less weight?

Will the revised model then be available in Europe?

Re: Spider and US

Hi mate,

I assume you are talking about the phaze 5 Spider, not the one that has only recently been released....

Over here downunder, i know of main area's that need to be addressed to keep up with the stiff competition form the likes of Audi.

The Body
Unfortunately the new Spider still shakes like anything and rattles on rough roads. This is due to the body still not being based on an enforced platform like the Audi's are. So this will be addressed according to my sources.

The 4 banger is underpowered stated simply. Many people are a wee pit ****ed as these cars are meant to have some get up and go and frankly it really doesnt. A Ford XR4 hits 100 quicker !

These are the main issues i know are being addressed, the sooner the better!

Cheers Josh

Re: Spider and US

No I think he is talking about the new Spider (946 type).

First of all it will need to be federalized - i.e addition of daytime running lights, marker lights on the side of the car, addition of warning stickers to every part of the car . The bumpers/bonnet of the car may need to be slightly modified to fit in with US crash regulations.

By 09 the Spider will already have had its facelift and I presume the much talked about weight reduction program. I think theres going to be a new v6 petrol and also a 3.0v6 JTDm (although whether they will launch this in the USA I dont know).

To be honest I dont know if they will do much with the handling as the 'lazy' boulevard cruising style the car already has will suit the US market perfectly.

I fully expect them to add white to the colour line up as that is an extremely popular colour choice in the USA.

Re: Spider and US

Fiat Group is preparing a traditional V6 engine in three stages of tune for 159, Brera, and Spider at 250, 300, and 350 hp. Ti packs will be options on Brera and Spider as part of a Custom Order Program. A V6 diesel is a possibility. Weight will be reduced between 150 and 300 Kg. The fourpots will also be traditional with a slight increase in displacement. As reported on another thread, Alfa has a new CEO who is also CEO of Abarth so maybe some cooperation could take place.
