Yes it is.
I went through both experiences. First company, reknown for multiple brands and with very good critics on the web, dis-aacembled the ECU harnass to remap and didn't leave any traces behind with respect to software re-writes. Went literally like a bullet, but.... disturbing diesel knock when accelerating hard in 3rd, 4th, 5th gear. Also on fuel consumption a decrease on average (not using the extra torque). So, after a couple of weeks I decided to go back to standard again.
Second time, another reknown tuner in NL, but specialized in FCA products only (and for over a decade), wondered why the previous tuner didn't use the EOBD plug as this is common use for years now. (...)
Anyway, same power and totque increase but without a worrying diesel knock, plus no negative effect on intake of fuel like previous time. Overall satisfied I must say.
In Germany there is a tuner active which offers re-map in a 50% DIY way. Meaning you buy a commonly available cable + software to download your ECU's map and by e-mail you get it re-mapped back (with correct check-sum etc.) to the level you prefer. Also this tuner gets very good critics in his home market.
From what you can find on this forum, I've seen some names popping up back again with good critics as well. How they work, I can't tell infortunately. Perhaps others will.
Good choice to go for a proper re-map, it will transform your 2.0 into what in my opinion has been restricted by factory for marketing reasons only (to keep selling the 5cyl.).
