On going electrics fault and battery recommed please
Still have this electrics issue where for no reason I lose everything.
I've had this on 5 occasions now, I'm driving along nicely then lose all electrics, the only common thing I can think of is its after a decent run, or maybe narrow it down a bit, its on the return journey of a decent run.
I took her down to Autolusso again Saturday morning and Laurence had the computer on it but the fault he had in mind (a steering lock ECU) didn't show up, no fault showed up.
On the way back on M27 just a couple of miles from home the electrics went out again, the radio came back as soon as I turned it on again but all else was out, windows, dials, indicators, lights etc.
I had 5 junctions to get home and peeps must have thought I was a right knobber with no brake lights and no indicators, couldn't do hand signals as the windows wouldn't open.
Anyway, I get back on the drive, turn engine off and the key locks in the dash as it does with this fault, I leave it for 20 minutes, come out and starts fine, all back to normal.
I know Laurence is stumped with this one but saturday he suggested I buy a new battery, the old one looks original but shows no signs of any weakness at all, starts first push every time and for most of my driving its just 3 miles to work then back again so I would expect at least of cough or two with short journeys and cold mornings if the thing was suspect.
Its strange that the fault arises when the car is warm, is it possible that an old battery could take too much charge and cause a spike enough to knock out the ECUs ? As soon as the ECUs reset all's good again.
I think I'll take Autolusso's advice and go for a new battery as its probably the cheapest next option but I'm not sure what's the best to go for, I've had Varta F21, Exide Premium 115TE, the Chinese one starts with a Y but cant think of off hand and Bosch (Autolusso rec).
I have looked at a few searches but thought I'd ask here again so...
Looking for the best battery for the 2.2 Spider 2008 and any suggestions where to get one,
many thanks in advance.
Luckily for my car its an Alfa because anything else would have had a kick up the back bumper and had its picture on the pages of Auto Trader.
