Hi - have you managed to solve it yet?I have my old lock it was locking & unlocking fine just wasn't sending signal to start (I think) if it's any use to you?
Let me know how you get on.
Hi Paul, yes actually that would help me out a lot. I'll PM you. If it is electronics like in your case the only solution is to get a new unit and get it coded. In my case the electronics are fine. You can test this:
Disconnect the battery
Remove the unit. (this will require a dremel to make a slit in the security bolts.
Open unit, again use the dremel to cut a slit in the screws so you can use a flat bladed screwdriver to open it.
Check position of mechanism. Is the steering lock engaged or disengaged?
With a little thread or small tyrap press the microswitch without the arm, this is the switch that will tell the ecu that the steeringlock is disengaged. Put your key in and connect the battery. If it starts there is a signal coming from the ecu and there is likely a mechanical problem.
In my case there was a signal but the mechanism got jammed or took to long to engage and disengage. When neither of the switches are pressed the ecu doesn't know if the steering lock is engaged and cant allow you to start the car.
I have tried several things to get the mechanism to work but after a while I get the same problem. Disconnecting the battery and opening the unit up, moving the mechanism and putting it back always cures it but is no permanent solution. I now have my disengaged the microswitch permanently pressed and the car starts fine, every time. But I have no steeringlock, also I have the message. So I intend to try transferring my electronics to a used unit to see if this will cure it. Keep you all informed, hope this will help someone in the future.
I'll update with some pictures, can't do that with my 3 year old on my lap
