159 Ti 2.4 Coolant Problem
Help! Something's going on and I cant get my finger on it!
I was happily going about my 159 alfa business and suddenly I was told to pull over as there was too much fluid in the coolant vessel. I did so straight away and noticed the temperature had risen considerably. The fan was on and you could smell that the engine was hot. I squished the pipes and there appeared to be fluid in them so I drove home, the temp gauge dropped straight away but was behaving erratically???
The next day I filled up with fluid which had lost all of the expansion vessel fluid! I then drove to work, 7 miles, checked the level and all seemed ok the gauge had risen very quickly but stayed at 90 deg.
On the way home the fan was on and fluid had appeared to have leaked out of the expansion vessel cap.
This morning I filled up (with water I know I shouldn't but I cant affoed to lose all this fluid!) same thing temp gauge gets to 90 quickly, but fan is on, engine is overheating and water has escaped out of the filler cap.
I put the heating on and the gauge dived so it would seem that the fluid is not circulating?
Any ideas chaps and chapesses? The car is running sweet other than this, no white smoke, no problems on idle? Could it be the plastric waterpump sheared Splines? Thermostat? It makes no sense to me??
