159 water leaks into cabin / boot
Discovered water under the carpets in the summer - found various suggested causes on here, and so checked the air con drain - connected, the scuttle drains - clear, and the seal on the galvanised plates inside the doors - knackered - so applied dum-dum strip and bolted them back up - job done!
Except not - found water under drivers side carpets again last weekend. Into the garage, having shoved everything else to one side, seat out, carpet out, mop it out and pull the doors apart again. All seemed fine, but I applied a good bead of silicon around the edge (I'm wary of applying silicon between panel and door as it will make it a right pain to get it off if I ever need to).
Found water in the A-pillar. More reading suggested leaks under the wing - so off came the wing - one bolt wasn't fully in. So selaant around all edges, rivnuts and a good dose of anti-seize compound to seal bolt threads and bolt it back up.
Left if outside this week, seat and carpet out (can't recommend using a cardboard box as a seat) with paper towel taped around door shuts, bottom of a-pillar and across behind the pedals, and it finally rained again today.
No sign of damp on the paper towel but there was a puddle in the drivers footwell. So torch out, stand on head in the footwell and look up - water running down the wireing loom from the scuttle, but the bulkhead seal looked dry. Removing the foam insulation up there revealed the leak - between the lower scuttle panel and the A-pillar - some sealant protrudes from the join, but not all the way along - which was where the water was.
Back in the garage and trims and wipers off. As you look down past the bonnet hinge mouting, it seems to be the join between panels on on the lower scuttle - thicker panel coming in from the inner wind, joined and sealed to the scuttle - seems to be a bit of a gap.
So tomorrow, a blast with compressed air to see if I can feel a leak, and reseal. I wonder if it's caused by the shell flexing with the big wheels and big heavy V6 in there? I'm a bit paranoid about shells flexing havig chased stress cracks around Lancia integrale shells for 20 odd years.
