About two years ago, I moved from one city to another, and thus had to find myself a new garage for services and repairs (I don't have the tools, the space or the knowledge but slowly picking up on the way). I went to a new place, a main Alfa dealer, and have learned the hard way what horrible service they offer:
- A squak to be heard when starting up the engine. Garage first changed the alternator. Squeak continued, went back again. Then they changed the steering pump. Squeak still there. I gave up and called my old indy garage, which is run by complete alfa-nutheads (three generations of alfa racers, and they have two buildings: one for the newer alfas and one for anything pre-1990 - I always had a look at what they service there, and it's basically anything between old 6Cs and Alfasuds etc). I described the noise and issue on the phone, and the guy interrupted me halfway and said "belt pulley, bring it in, takes 15 minutes". Said and done.
- Performed the 90K service at the new garage. Later I discovered that all filters were still original. Even the MAF sensor had not been cleaned. WTF...
- Recently, I changed a plastic part of the windscreen (bottom corners) at the garage. Took 5 minutes, and drove off, only to realize that my hood wasn't decently closed when parking up at my destination
I have since a long time decided, that I rather drive 100 KMs to my old indy garage who I know does a good job and only do minimum stuff at the main stealer - wheel changes and glow plugs. I bought new windscreen wipers last week at the stealer and paid 68 bucks for them..
