Re: 159 dashboard display

My 159 now has 6,700km on it and the gearbox has a much better action than it did when new. First to second has always been a bit tricky (notchy, resistant), but this has greatly improved over mileage and is only really an issue when the gearbox is cold. Before I collected my car, I was told (I believe, reliably) by a friend who's had a number of Italian cars, and his fair share of Alfas (currently including a GT), that the notchiness between first-second is an issue when the gearbox is cold. He forewarned me to just caress the change until the gearbox warms up. I've followed that advice and, as I mentioned, there is an improvement on cold first-second changes, and also third-second changes. Once it's warmed up, it's fantastic and I personally really like the feel of it. I agree with Fraser - the feel of the gearbox is wonderfully mechanical. I find the gearbox (and the car, generally) rewards driver input and effort - you have to engage with it, and I love that part of owning and driving it. No sterile experiences with this car!
