Read ecu with OBD before buying car

Hi Guys,

I intend to buy a AR 159 2.4JTDm. I've driven an AR 147 1.6 Veloce a year ago, now I'm looking for her big brother.

Yesterday I bought a OBD2 elm 327 cable, downloaded the MultiEcuScan software and looked around in it's simulation mode. Does anybody has experience with reading the ecu on a testdrive of the car? It's not an usual thing to do when one buys a car. Do you have to ask them upfront that you're planning to take al look 'inside' the board computer? Or do not ask them to prevent them from erase any errors?

I'm curious what error codes to expect. What codes are 'normal' and not big trouble on a 2.4JTDm (2008-2010). And ofcourse which codes are 'deal-breakers' to definitely not buy the car.

Thank you

When you're at your test drive just ask the man/lady if it is OK. Or take her to a local service for inspection. Costs a bit but saves trouble.
