(sorry if this seems overly long)
Test drove a used 2.2 Brera yesterday at my local well known dealer. Very impressed with the car
, only thing I wasn't overly impressed with was the over light steering. Engine and performance was better than I had been led to believe from car magazines and the ride on 18" was much better than my current car a BMW120D on 16". Build quality is almost up to BMW/Audi standards, not quite there but very close.
I want to buy a Brera but Afla dealers seem to have changed how they sell cars, this dealer has sold me 2 Alfa's in the past 146,147 and I was unlucky with both (new cylinder head (146) new gearbox (147), I've had an 11 year relationship so to speak with the dealer. They made absolutly no effort
to sell me the car or to try and negoiate the price or my px. Now I thought that the target market for Alfa was owners of German cars, so I would have expected more effort to sell the car to me. For me I much prefer to barter and have a bit of banter when buying a car. I don't go in for this new arrogant attitude the saleamen have.
The salesman even wanted me to pay £100 to transfer the outstanding balance of the Alfa warrenty in my name.
Its clearly stated on the Alfaromeo website that to transfer the warranty is £23.50, anyway it should be in with the price of the car.
When I asked for a straight 'cost to change' the salesman came back with over £1000 of extras that I never asked for, Gap insurance, paint protector, sat nav, mats. WTF is going on with these dealers? Are they incapable of answering a simple question OR
are they just trying to rip people off.
To say I'm annoyed with the dealer is an understatement.
To top it all, when I got home and dug out all my old mags with Brera reviews, this car was on the front cover of Autocar 06.
Would you consider buying a ex press car, will it have been thrashed? (road testing) will the clutch, transmission be knackered?
Have to admit the car drove well and I couldn't feel anything amiss, apart from the tyres being quite worn, but the manufactures warrenty is only good until 03/08 then the 1 year dealer warranty kicks in.
