The car has developed a lovely clicking noise. Not noticeable in normal driving, but when parking, turning steering, there's a point where this metallic click happens. I jacked it up earlier, went lock to lock and the noise is not present. Had driver's wheel off, all links seemed secure, dropped the car again and the noise is present.
Managed to get an extra pair of hands to turn the wheel and it's actually coming from the passenger side. I did grab the track rod with wheel on and there's no abnormal play, but I'm going to jack it up now and see if anything is catching as it almost sounds like the disc shield is catching.
Anyway if you wouldn't mind watching the vid and see if you can think of any possibilities. As I say, it only happens when the wheels are in contact with the road, so it's going to be a tough one for me to diagnose when it's in the air. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TMZ0-X_e-jQ
Put the phone pointing at the ball joint on the rod end filming or where the sounds coming from, they may only move under load as your hands are not strong enough to move them. You'll be able to see what's going on then
Well I tried just jacking one side up, again no noise, so had the wheel off and had a good rummage, couldn't feel anything nor see signs of rubbing. Jacked the hub up to load it, still nothing, but as I'd got the hub up,in the air, I noticed the track rod nut looked like it had actually cut through part of its aluminium housing. This is a 3 week old track rod and I used the bolt that Birth supply, casting my mind back to when I changed all the suspension and then got AL to check it over, I seem to remember the Tech saying it was all fine but I'd used the wrong nuts. I thought it strange as I'd used the ones supplied. However, the original bolts have a flange on them and clearly the ones supplied by Birth don't, nor do they have a washer. I've put a thick washer in now, but the bolt didn't want to torque up much before it cracked and had to be torqued again, defo not cross threaded, so I guess for safety's sake I'll replace it. Check the photos, I can't see there being a recess in the housing, so I guess the nut has been cutting a hole? It doesn't appear to be making the noise anymore, so I'm hoping a £17 part is the culpret. 4 hours ago I was thinking steering rack!
Must get on to supplier as I don't have the original flanged bolts anymore.
Also noticed some rubber hanging from the lower wishbone bush, maybe it's just a seal that's gone, but this may be the cause of my other intermittent click.
