159 2.4 jtdm Q-Tronic Review
We picked up my wife's 159 2.4 jtdm SW Q-Tronic an went to holiday in France the next day. Drove 3000+ km, so I'm now able to write a brief review:
The car: stromboli grey, beige leather, black/beige dash, standard 17" alloys ... would have preferred 18", but as over her (Luxembourg), we need winter tyres, it would have meant buying an extra set of 17" alloys ... too expensive. Car looks gorgeous though!
It's a replacement for a 3-year old BMW 325i Touring, which wa OK but a bit boring. My wife always regretted her previous red 156 1.8 ts!
The engine: oh god! a Diesel ... Over here resale value of petrol engines is next to nothing (even BMW). Apparently only one of 50 159's sols has a petrol engine. However, I found the engine great, lots of oomph for overtaking and the sound is even not bad over 2000 rpm! Fuel consumption was 9.3 liter /100 km for the entire trip.
The Gearbox: an automatic?!?!?! Well, as my wife does mostly city driving, it was the most sensible choice. It's our first automatic and we love it! It's fast, reactive and smooth at the same time. Manual change is great using the optional paddles, but you can basically get the box to do anything you want using your right foot. Its' really fantastic!
The rest of the car is excellent as well: good right quality, excellent chassis although the car really feels heavy compared to the 156, BMW-level built quality: nothing rattles or squeaks. Blu & Me works fine.
Only problems: engine light came on at about 700 km, then off again at 1000 (it will go to the dealer tomorrow to check what the cause was ... the dealer also recommended an oil change at 3000 km) and the low battery light keeps going on. If you switch off the engine then on again, the light stays off ...
I know, lots of positive things here, but couldn't find anything really negative ... maybe I'm not being objective
OH, and if I want a sporty car with great sound and manual gearbox, I still have the GTA!!!
