Hi all, bit of an issue I'm looking for advice on.
I bought my 159 knowing that it had suffered a rear ending and had been repaired. She is a Lusso and the bumper was replaced with a spurious one that was not drilled for parking sensors. Therefore there is a message on the dash all the time informing me that the parking assistance is unavailable. I also have a message to check the licence plate bulbs whenever I turn on the lights, even though the bulbs both work fine.
I recently disconnected the most forward plug from the parking sensor ECU in the boot. This got rid of my parking sensor fault, but I noticed soon afterwards that the left license plate bulb wasn't illuminating.
Having found a set of original parking sensors in the correct colour at a good price on ebay, I decided to take the bumper off today to see what the real damage was and see if the sensor plugs had been spared.
As you can see from the pictures, what I found wasn't pretty.
Everything had been cut, the splices look like they were carried out by a near sighted gorilla wearing boxing gloves and they even managed to cut the wires to the RHS license plate light too short, necessitating a double splice using the wrong gauge of wire.
After much fiddling with the multimeter I discovered that the LHS license plate was only powered if I reconnected the plug on the parking sensor ECU. So I tidied up the splices as best I could and put everything back together.
So basically I'm back to square one. I have the license plate bulb warning (with working bulbs) and the parking sensor warning.
Can anyone advise on the cost/difficulty of obtaining a new loom for the parking sensors and license plate lights? I reckon that's the only thing that will fix these issues unless someone has another idea?
In the meantime I've ordered some Canbus error free led bulbs to see if they will sort the false warning, but looking at the state of the wires I'd say it's a waste of time.
