Alfa Romeo 159 owners check your wiring!

I can't attach photos.. but.....

We've two 159s in the family: 07 2.2 Ti (75k miles) and 06 1.9JTDm (140k miles) and I was having a good root around last weekend and noticed on the 2.2 JTS the main 125A red power cable from running from the battery tray fuse box down to the alt/starter motor was chaffing/rubbing off an earth ground strap. The insulation was still somewhat intact but over time the +12 will come in contact directly with the ground strap! Nice.

I've put automotive conduit on the cables now.. this type of stuff: (I've no connection with this company):

Convoluted Tubing

I'm guessing if the two came in contact the 125 A fuse would pop.. but not after a bit of heat & welding.. not good.

If you have a 159 then do check the heavy duty cables around there!

I also removed the battery / battery tray and followed the cables down to the starter motor etc and added conduit/sleeving as required. I don't know if this wiring routing is standard or just a quirk on my car but it's not good/safe imo. The 1.9JTDm wasn't as bad.
