Hi, there is a grommet you can drill through, but trying to find any room to do it in a 2.4 (from the footwell or the engine bay) was a nightmare, so I gave up. I ended up routing it out of the top, passenger side corner of the engine bay, under that rubbery bit where the bonnet meets the screen and then dropping it down the the inside edge of the door, as such. Then it's just a case of having a few cm exposed until it reaches the check strap hole where you can poke it through into the footwell (under the carpet on the side).
It is only exposed when the door is open. I also put a little tear drop style loop in the cable before it went into the hole, so on the off-chance it did happen to get wet (never happened) it would drip off the bottom instead of into the hole and therefore carpet inside. This route has the added bonus of entering at the point where you can just run it straight down the edge of the car to the boot.
