Oil Change Nightmare
It was time my 159 (1.9Jtdm) had some fresh oil. Never had a problem with oil changes on my previous Alfas in the past so I went and got the necessary oil, filter, sump plug washer and some flush.
Car up on stands, undertray off (with a little bit of persuading) and then the fun began. I checked I could access the filter housing (that seemed okay), checked the size of the sump plug (13mm, no room for a socket). All seeming okay I added the flush and ran the engine for the requisite time. When I tried to undo the sump nut it seemed a bit tight. Went and got a better spanner not wanting to round the edges. Still couldn't make it budge, applied some more pressure, no movement. Got a rubber mallet, began to persuade the nut. Bloody thing began to round off.
End result was I took it to friendly garage who used a socket especially for rounded nuts - had to drop the engine first to get access!! The first socket actually broke in half but finally the second one managed to make it move.
I have NEVER seen anything like it. I have no idea how the nut got so tight when you can't get anything bigger than a spanner on the bloody thing. The replacement sump plug was an allen bolt so hopefully this one will be okay.
On the filter housing it seems to be a weird size, 76mm and 16 flutes. I've seen some 76mm 8 flute tools adverstised for Alfas, would that fit? Wouldn't want to use my chain on the plastic in case I broke it.
