Tyre pressure surprise
I have been a little concerned about my 159Ti's consumption for a while now. My 2.4 QTronic, remapped to 240bhp/360 lb.ft was returning 15ltrs/100km around town : around 19 mpg. Pretty dreadful...
Only after consulting a thread around tyre pressure here did I realise that I was underinflating my tyres by quite a lot : I was at 36psi all round (on 19 rims). I read here that I should try 42psi at the front and 38 rear. So I pumped everything up, and the car is transformed. Better ride, sharper steering, massively so. What was already good is now even better. Shame on me for not reading the manual!
...and the fuel consumption? 11.5ltrs/100km : 24.6mpg around town. Still not brilliant but hey, quite a change! Plus, if I turn off the aircon now and again I can eke out even a little more.
I knew tyre pressures played a part in overall consumption, but I'm frankly surprised at how big a part!
