Hot restart issue / Alternator ?
Following a 140 mile journey in my 159 1.9 jtdm yesterday, I stopped the engine and then tried to restart it. The starter just chugged slowly, the display lights went out and it failed to start. The end of the journey was spent in traffic and very high temparatures, the only difference I noticed prior to this was that the idle had increased to around 1200 rpm.
After cooling down for around an hour it restarted normally, as I had already called the AA they took a look at it and concluded it was only charging the battery intermittently and the reason it had flattened was probably down to extensive use of the climate control.
I have driven it back 140 miles today in cooler conditions and have had no problems at all. The alternator was replaced around 2 years ago. Is it this that has caused the problem or is it likely to be something else?
