I'm after a 159 sportswagon 1.9 diesel (avoiding the 2.4 to keep insurance and tax down) on a fairly limited budget. For example there is a 2007 159 lusso with 142,000 on the clock from a dealer nearby for £2800. This would probably suit me just fine.
My only worry is, at that mileage, how much life will be left in it?
Personally I'd be wary of buying a 1.9 with high miles on a budget. Some are prone to gearbox issues so best to factor in additional cost of rebuild in purchase price
Yes I've been reading about the potential gearbox issues. But, of course, I could spend more on a lower mileage example and still have to fix the gearbox. I suppose I should add factor in a £1500 potential repair bill to anything below £5000?
On mileage like that they may well have had a new clutch/dmf and gearbox re-built already done. Worth checking the history of the car before ruling it out. I had my clutch and gearbox go at 95000miles (57 plate) now on 125000 miles and plan on running it until i can get my hands on the new giulia.
