Another vote for Super Unleaded from me, been running it for the last 7K miles or so. Found Esso and BP 97 to be the best with Tesco 99 being a bit variable (had a couple of tanks that made the car run very roughly).
My MPG is only marginally better by 1-2 MPG at circa 33 MPG but the car is so much smoother in its delivery. Initially it made no real difference until I reset the ECU and gave it an immediate Italian tune up, after that it was noticeably better.
I agree with the points above re the knock sensors and the way an ECU works on a modern car, I'm not convinced in any way that a Super Unleaded (generally 97 octane) fuel can make a car run worse than 95.
Put it this way I don't intend to switch back to 95.
