Power steering pump fluttery noise
I am currently looking to purchase a 159 2.2 JTS. I have looked at two so far, the first was a dog but the second seems quite nice for its age and mileage but it seems to have two issues I am not sure about.
The first is that if I rev the engine to about 2000 rmp and then shut the throttle a fluttery slightly metallic sound emanates from the power steering pump. It doesnt sound like a bearing more like maybe the pressure relief valve. Its possible the noise is normal so I thought I would ask on here to see if anyone recognises my description.
The second is that the engine would not start on the button unless either the brake or clutch was pressed. I can see how this might be a safety feature but the first one I looked at seemed to start on the button so I am not sure which, if either, is a fault. It also has a message on the dash display which says "Vehicle Protection System unavailable" and a bit of googling suggests this may be related?
Any help greatly appreciated.
