Rear Air Vents Cold Air Only?

Just had to make an early morning journey from the airport having come home from warmer climes in my wife's SW Ti. Myself and the boss ( wife ) were toastie in the front with the heated from seats on and the climate doing its stuff. At this point my poor 11 year old in back piped up that he was cold and that the air coming out of the rear vents was cold. ( which it was )

The vents at the back dont' have any temp controls on them so why would the air to the rear be cold, when it was hot at the front?

Cant find anything about this in the manual.

Is this just another mad Italian quirk, or an idiot from Derbyshire who cant use simple Climate controls?

Thanks in advance

i've often found this and wonder if the vents in the rear are fresh air only? When needing wanrm air in the rear I have forced aircon to the footwells which also pumps warm air to the rear footwells.

Isn't the tri zone option the only one that gives you heated air to the back? I thought the back vent actually takes air from the cool box...but could be wrong on this?

There seems to be a bit of confusion on this, but think you are right!
I am sure I read that it is controlled by the passenger side temperature, but would make more sense if it used the air through the cool box as suggest by lovelyred, but that raises the question as to what happens if you have rear controls and change the temp to warm?!

The attached page from the manual shows the air flow.

It seems the vents only supply the same air as the face (and cool box) vents. The warm air comes under the seats.

The TriZone seems to blend air and probably shuts off the face vents to get the warmth from under the seats until the temperature is reached.

Rover 75 is very similar, rear vents supply outside fresh air only, under seat vents supply conditioned air, so not just Italian madness.
