1.9 Jtdm turbo lag / over-reving help
My '57 reg 1.9 Jtdm SW (45,000 miles) has recently started acting up. Acceleration seems weak and not as punchy as it was until a couple of weeks ago.
Main symptoms are that the power doesn't seem to really pick-up from 1800 rpm - 2500/3000 rpm and then from about 2500 rpm, the engine sounds like it's over-reving - the needle jumps to about 3000 rpm but without much power before it somewhat becomes apparent around 3000 rpm.
If I accelerate gently, the problem is less evident, but it is still noticeable.
Now I am not going to blame my wife, but she has been using it for the past 3 weeks on short runs of a few miles in town traffic. I recall that you are supposed to run the car at >30 mph for 15-20 minutes to burn off carbon which has not happened and will try this weekend. Alternatively, and before taking to the garage (which may have to be Halfords... due to lack of indie's near me), any guesses/suggestions as to what it could realistically be? EGR sticking? Should I just take it in in case the pipes are old?
Any help appreciated as I am planning to take the car across France this summer and the last thing I need is to be doing it at 50 mph...
Thanks in advance!
