It really does depend what car you have come from. The 159 even in Lusso form with 18" wheels is relatively firm for a 3 box family saloon. (This is my wife's car.)
I drive 50k per year in company cars changed every 10k so have driven a few equivalent alternative over enough miles to give an opinion from BMW320 diesel (thinnest seat foam on any car I have driven and seat runners very uncomfortable to find my arse on), Insignia, Mondeo, Passat, Toyota Avensis, C5, Megane. The Avensis was the worst suspended box I have driven for a very long time almost no control of anything and the Insignia gave me a huge fright when hitting an undulation in a LH bend while braking hard and I know from experience it wouldn't been half the trauma had I been in the Alfa.
If you are looking for something less harsh and more plushy you will have to spend money on the suspension or trade for something like the Passat, Mondeo or Insignia but the 159 in standard trim when pushing on will corner far better than most equivalent boxes and better than almost every one of the above.
Horses for course. I drive quickly on all roads and am happy to trade comfort for cornering control.
