Brera 2.4JTDM MPG
I have finally got some form of response from Alfa Uk regarding the economy of the Brera 2.4JTDM. They appear to stand by the government figures 31/41/52 (urban,combined,X-urban)> They initally told me that these figures were independant of Alfa (ie government tested figures) but the VCA have since confirmed to me that the Brera 2.4JTDM (maybe all Alfa figures) are not tested by them, but recognised under a "mutual recognition scheme" that is currently in place. (ie Alfa supoplied them with the figures)
Whatever the mechanism for getting these figures, the ones for the Brera JTDM (31/41/52) are clearly a piece of fiction. Reading the many posts it appears the 180hp 159 JTDM can get close, but the 200HP Brera is at least 25% away.
i think that if you buy a diesel, probably the main reason is some form of respectible mpg (which 42mpg is). So i reaslly have an issue with marketing a vehicle, playing to the green issues, and supplying figures which are inaccurate. I have written to Alfa again (the last time it took 7 weeks for a reply), but plan to raise the issue with Trading Standards. Any further supporting evidence of mpg figures from other Brera 2.4JTDM owners would be helpful.
