159 3.2 V6 Q4 early review
Now had the car for a full week, covered 700 miles and as happy as a sand boy.
The obvious positives for me are;
Performance and noise of the V6
Luxurious interior, stacks of superior leather and high quality plastics
Quiet and nicely dampened ride
Great shape for such a large 4 door car, wonderful front light cluster, even the back looks mean with the hooded lights and twin exhausts
Wonderful drivers position with stacks of adjustment if needed
159 rare on the road and V6 will continue to be even more so.
Looks great in metallic black and tan leather
However, the car cannot be described as a sports car even though the straight line performance is very good. It just carries too much weight and does not have the balance or manoeuvrability. But then that is not why I purchased it.
Negatives I have very little;
Can be quite loud on wrong tarmac at speed
Petrol consumption is terrible (but same as my previous RX8)
Trip computer telling you above!
Black paint swirl, needs a polish after wash.
Standard Stereo not impressive after BOSE set-up in RX8.
Gear box not as slick as can be.
I spent some of yesterday at the Merc centre in Weybridge where all model Merc are on display and can be sat in. I would say that the Alfa interior quality is up there with them (but unclear if they will last as long) but importantly all the Merc interiors were very bland in comparison. Also, so expensive for a car one sees in multiples on the road. I left there very happy with the Alfa on all fronts.
I love the exclusivity of this car, the fact at the moment everything seems of the highest quality and well screwed together and works. I hope it lasts because I dont want to test the Alfa dealers.
Anyone thinking of buying the 159 I can fully recommend my spec V6, just fantastic and IMHO good enough to attract the BMW, Merc and Audi drivers out of their cars.
