Well, after 9 great years of 156 SW ownership, I thought it was about time to trade the old girl in for a slightly newer model
Whilst I had this far-fetched dream of keeping the 156 for ever, being convinced its design and appeal would make it a classic in years to come (I go to the classics show NEC every year and I know what's regarded as a 'classic' so that aspect isn't that far-fetched!), the reality was starting to take over the dream and ever-increasing costs to keep it up to scratch led me to start looking at a replacement.
As soon as the 159 came out, I thought this would be my next car, and haven't really considered anything else during all those years.
Although I've never been a fan of 'diseasals', I was open to advice as to whether to stick with petrol or go to diesel for the 159. I only do around 5-6000 miles a year as I have another 'runabout' to use for the bulk of my commuting so the advice I sought came back a unanimous 1750TBi petrol! Yay
So I got onto my friends at Veloces, where I bought the 156 in Nov 2005, and where it's been maintained for the majority of that time, and told them I was thinking of getting a 1750 (or is it 1.75?) TBi Ti SW. They said they were expecting to get a couple in within a week or two, so I've just had a couple of weeks of mixed emotions whilst waiting for that phone call. I say mixed cos I knew I would miss the 156 but hoped the 159 would be as much of an improvement as i'd been advised it would.
The call came two weeks ago to say that they were getting a 2010 (60) in red and that I could have first refusal. I hadn't particularly been after a red one, but it just seemed right, to replace my red 156. Just a shame that (financially) I couldn't keep both
Went along last Saturday for look see and a brief-ish test drive I paid a deposit and we shook on the deal. I arranged to pick it up this weekend, after they'd done a service and can belt / water pump change (which was due in 6 months anyway).
Anyhoo, enough waffle. You all know what these cars look like, but here's what MINE looks like (new & old). I just hope they can find a new owner for the 156 who's as keen to look after it as I have been...
