Possible wheel bearing failure?
I know this is very difficult to give an opinion on without actually hearing the noise but I'll try to explain it.
Firstly my car has always suffered from poor road noise probably due to poor alignment and Accelera tyres. Whenever the tyres get worn there is a lot more road noise not dissimilar to a worn bearing. A constant hum which changes pitch with speed but does not change with different loading while cornering.
At the minute both my front tyres are due replacement and are definitely humming at the moment. What is different this time is that for this past several months the humming has been there even with good tyres on, but did not change pitch with cornering. Just yesterday on my way back from work I noticed all of a sudden that when loaded up on the left side (taking a right hand corner) the noise gets louder and seems slightly more mechanical but is hard to tell. The constant humming is also quite a bit louder than previous as well. I do know the front offside bearing was changed before I bout the car. Is it likely I have a failed bearing on the nearside? Has anyone found that when their tyres get worn the humming can change with load on the tyre?
Any opinions and help appreciated.
