Hopefully some 159 owners can help me with some of my questions. I've taken a 159 out for a test drive and loved it. Aside from the fact that its drop dead gorgeous, its a very nice car to drive too. Although what are the plastic air con switches all about?!?! I'm going for the 2.4 diesel which is a step up from my current 1.9tdi VAG engined car. Anyhoo...on to my questions...
When driving the diesel I took out the tubo seemed to suddenly burst to life at about 2k revs. Is this normal for the engine? I'm used to constant power with no surges and this came as a surprise. When pulling out in traffic nothing happend when I started to press and then wooosh....I was nearly in the car in front
I prefer the look of the solid black paint. It matches the italian styling better than the metallic. Is there any 'protection' reasons for going for the met option? Is it harder wearing than the solid?
The rear seats...am I right in saying they are NOT split folding? Can you get that as an option? Anyone not option it and now wish they did?
Any options which you guys would suggest as 'must haves' on a 159 purchase? I'm going for the Blue and me but thats about it (unless I need to sort the folding back seats out!).
And finally.....is the Ti worth it? The 159 is an elegant car and from 1 or 2 of the pictures it looks like a 159 owner won a shopping spree in Halfords. The wing mirrors and brakes put me off. Saying that, the interior pictures of the black leather with red stiching. Are those new, more supportive seats?
Sorry for all the questions....I'm quite excited and can't wait for my new car but also worried that I get it right.
Hi Cannavar, the boost really does cut in at 2K. It seems a bit oomphey in 1st particularly, but thats because IMHO the gearing is too low in 1st. Also the lag drops significantly with increasing miles. The power delivery is much smoother as the engine beds in but the obvious turbo propulsion remains and to be honest, I love it
I haven't went for the flat black, but did have the metallic black on my first 159 and wasn't impressed by the finish on the vertical panels. In particular the C pillars showed quite aweful orange peel effect. AR have tried to address this, but with the new water based paints, I think the metallic flecks appear to dry more slowly than 'base' colour and this causes a rippling effect in the final finish. I think its a matter of paint chemistry that simply hasnt been sorted properly.
The rear seats in the saloon can fold, but this is a £300 option in the UK
but free in the SW.
With regards to other options, the Bose upgrade is absolutely superb, particularly in the SW. the blue and me is meant to be superb, but they forgot to install it in mine
I wouldn't go for the front sensors - other guys have commented that they're really annoying and not particularly useful. Instead, opt for the bi-xenons, they give out x4 the light. Also, the 18" alloys don't harshen the ride that much. To be honest I think their effects on handling far outway their negative effects on comfort.
I would definitely go for the TI pack for the seats alone, but like you, would request they loose the rather tacky (IMHO) brushed aluminium door mirrors!
Good luck with it!
