Running for the 159 2.2 JTS

Hi Guys,

Just got my 159 SW yesterday and already clocked 150km on it. My sales rep told me that the engine has already been run in at the factory (over a distance of 100km) - hence there isn't a need for me to run in my car. He recommended driving as i normally would. Some 159 owners around i spoke to, recommending erring on the safe side and keep the revs below 3k for the 1st 1000 km.

I'd like to know what your experience has been.

Re: Running for the 159 2.2 JTS

I just read through my 159 manual, there is one sentence that mentioned about running-in along the lines:
"During the initial period, do not drive the car to its maximum performance"
My 159 was delivered with only 8km on the clock. Now its 450 km after 3 weeks. I have not rev the car above 3k rpm.
Maybe you should stick to your friends advices.

I think you might still be being a little too gentle with her. What it really is saying is just to avoid red-lining the revs! 4-5k rpm won't do any harm. Probably more important is to wait until the oil temp comes up before really putting your foot down!

Oh yeah, and also note the comment about running-in the brakes too,. For the first 500km you should avoid hard braking (if you can!!!) until the discs and pads have bedded in and the car's electronic systems have "learnt" the braking characteristics of all four corners.
