I blame my COPD problems mainly on duty free fags in BAOR, back in the 50's and 60's as I've mentioned before.
But after working in a number of motor vehicle workshops for years when I was back in civvy street ,I must of inhaled masses of asbestos brake dust, cellulose paint overspray, inert body filler dust, carborundum and minute steel particulates, plus fumes from petrol and diesel engines, in spite of being given those flimsy thin material masks issued from the stores.
It was almost impossible to wear the things permanently doing nine hour shifts Monday to Friday, plus the obligatory 5hrs on a Saturday?
Those diesels back then were smelly smoke producers, tested statically, that often filled the workshops with fumes, after having new short motors or dry liners refitted to them.
Bedford TK's, Leylands, Guy Warriors, and so on, DD and SD Buses, Pantechnicons, CA Vans and pickups, so it's a wonder I'm still here in my mid-seventies, Innit'?
