Steve, we have both a Spider and a Brera, both with the 2.2 petrol. I drove and loved diesel cars for 25 years, but when Mrs bought the 2.2 I had to have a petrol again. I have done 20K in the Brera since buying it over the last 12 months. The Brera is a good compromise, youd be surprised how much you get in the back and looks as good as a Spider. The Spider is great in the summer, we did Italy and back in 2013 in ours but generally it only does about 12k PA. I'm not going to say anything about reliability, but I have no complaints! The Spider roof can
give problems, we've just had a warranty job done on hours. Any problems with an Alfa Romeo, get it sorted by someone who really knows what they are doing, a knowledgeable trained guy should be able to ensure many trouble free miles.
So, dip your hand in your pocket
, get a Brera for 'work' and a Spider for the sun shine, forget any ideas of a diesel in either.
Your idea of driving the fiesta on long trips will not happen, I'll have money on that!
