Thing to check / be wary of:
Cambelt, water pump, pulleys and tensioner should have been changed at least once (the water pump often fails, doing a lot of damage)
Clutch / DMF
Gearbox whirring / whining (could sound like a air blower motor whirring behind the dash)
Movement of the gearstick (clicking when throttling on and off when moving along)
Usual suspension groans / clunks
Steering fluid should be green (and preferably have the upgraded reservoir although appreciate this is difficult to check!)
On the whole, these are really good and reliable cars if looked after properly. The biggest and, potentially, the most expensive problem is the troublesome M32 gearbox. If all appears OK, change the oil and replace with 3 litres of Fuchs Titan Sintofluid gearbox oil. Good save you a world of pain in the future if you purchase the car....
Rockin' all over the road!
