Engine warning light after new timing chain
I'm new to the forum and have seen this asked elsewhere, but not quite the same as the issue I have experienced.
I own a 2006 159 2.2 JTS petrol, lovely car and enjoy every minute driving it.
It recently threw up an engine warning and was diagnosed as having a stretched timing chain, so I took this to be repaired and everything was ok.
After about 50-60 miles the light has come on again. I notice that when I accelerate it seems a little sluggish up to about 3-4k revs. I also noticed that when I'm changing gears it seems to rev itself (not sure of the technical term for this!) For example, changing between 1st and 2nd at around 2.5k revs, as I dip the clutch the rev counter shoots up to about 3.5-4k and I can hear the engine revving, but then drops back down once I change gear.
I'm considering taking it back to a garage to get the faults read again, but I'm sure this will cost me a pretty penny, so thought I'd ask first if anyone has experienced a similar problem and has any ideas what could be causing it.
Unfortunately the previous owner was pretty useless as holding onto invoices, so I don't really know how much work it's had in the past, other than over the last couple of years. It's due a service soon, so could be related, but I'm loathed to pay for a service if it's on the verge of costing me £££s to repair the engine.
Any help/insight would be much appreciated.
