My new Brera
Back in October I bought, with some trepidation, my first diesel car, a Brera. I don't think I intended to buy one, but it was there and, well they are simply beautiful things. My logic for diesel was the cost of running high performance petrol cars, ie road tax and fuel cost, given that my use of the car is mainly for high days and holidays. Indeed most of the miles I put on my car are usually on the continent. So I travelled up to Glasgow to collect my aquisition and had a great drive back, smiles all the way, but since then it has only been used on the odd occasion to go less than 10 miles or so and because of this I started to worry about EGR's and PDF's, lots of initials with diesels, AND my biggest issue the sound, I hate the sound of diesels. I really began to think I had made a big mistake, adding to that a different driving style, my JTS would pull away in top gear from 1000 rpm, town driving was easy, if you wished it to be, my Brera did not like it at all. Last Saturday morning I had to make a trip across country to a place near Barnsley, as I drove up my drive listening to the clatter of the engine I was again thinking about parting with this little puppy. Then I joined the motorway, the engine was warm and I pushed the pedal down, everything came alive, it all smoothed out and the noise was certainly not unpleasant. As the journey continues my smile got bigger, people looked at the car as I went past them, it was at this point I realised why I bought it, I cannot wait for my trips over the water to really stretch its legs, all doughts dispelled. Love it. I even used less fuel than I thought I might.
