Well, I have my Alfa Romeo 159 JTDm 1.9 16V for about a month now and I have to say I love the car. I love driving it, I love looking out the window a it. I think I have become a little obsessed with it
Anyway, I had an NCT on Thursday and it failed
I was a little unhappy because the garage I purchased the car from said the car was perfect and had no issues and would pass no problem. Well, the first problem as the rear brake pads were worn and I had to get the garage to replace them before the test. The previous owner told me about that though.
And it failed the NCT because the inner tie rod is worn. The guy doing the test actually advised me to leave the car and get it towed to a garage, he had never seen one so badly worn before. I drove it home, but I am kinda afraid to drive it at all now, and the garage I purchased from is about a 45 minute drive from me.
I have a 3 month warrant from the garage, so I presume they have to take care of this? When I talked to the guy in garage on the phone he was saying that the car was fine when it left the garage and they checked it out fully. He didn't come right out and say it, but I got the impression he was blaming me. Is there anyway that an tie rod end could wear down that much in a month of driving?
The NCT guy said it would be a pretty easy job to replace, just to get the steering aligned afterwards. Am I within my rights to push the garage to replace the rod for free? What happens if I can't drive the car over, is it up to me to get the car over the garage? even though they sold a car that is dangerous to drive?
I am presuming it would be very bad if the tie rod breaks while driving!!
