Boot strut advice

Hi guys

Just replaced one of the boot struts, as the original cracked (seems to be a common problem)

It seems a bit creaky and although it had a dob of grease in the top, i wonder if i should put a little more in?

If so ,what should i be looking to get hold of?

Don't think you can fill the gas struts with anything, the grease was maybe there to lubricate the piston. I believe they are a throwaway item. I replaced some on the wife vectra some years ago, easy peasy. Is it the strut thats creaking or the hinges?
