My Brera (V6) has ALWAYS had a problem filling up, since I've owned it (6 months now). Doesn’t matter what petrol station, or if I hold the nozzle left/right/upside down, etc. Its always done it, and is quite annoying.
If I hold the nozzle in the middle of the fuel filler neck just past the neck entrance and squirt the fuel in with half a trigger press (not the safest thing to do …) I can see that the fuel is just not draining down into the tank quickly enough. I can get a full tank, but it just takes 10 minutes rather than 2 or 3. Brimming the tank takes some patience else I get a load of petrol spat back out the filler.
Having read the whole thread there isn't an indication what causes this or if there is a simple fix. My car is now at 50,000 miles and out of warranty so I doubt I can get the tank replaced - if indeed that solves the problem.
Is it somehow due to an airlock of some kind in a u-bend going into the tank ? (seems an unlikely design 'feature')
Is it down to some a breather pipe from the tank somehow being blocked ?
Is it a govt plot to frustrate me into a eco-weeny 1.0L car ?!
Any tricks to sorting this out would be most welcome.
