My first post here so might introduce first. Owning a 2007 Brera 2.2 since Jan 2014. My first owned Alfa, but my dad is passionate alfisti so I can say I have been enjoying them every now and then since few years.
That lovely rainy evening, I wanted to get a quick ride to the shops, went to parking pressed the key fob and.... nothing. Neither lights flash nor a sound of lock opening. Tried few times, only the inside light will flash for a moment and fade away.
Surprisingly passengers door opened (?) but instantly car alarm went off. Key fob does not work and as this is quiet residential area I jumped in panic to open the car bonnet. God knows what I was thinking to disconnect the alarm or so, the bonnet opened and... the handle snapped.
So I was standing there in the rain, broken handle in my hand and alarm whooping across quiet saturday night in suburbs
And I just wanted a short nice ride to the shops...
My assumption is that 99% this is an empty battery, as I did not use the car for over 3 weeks due to work travel. As it was 8PM Saturday and I am parked on a street, I have to leave the issue until tomorrow. With door closed, the alarm stops whooping so this is fine. Unfortunately I can only lock the car on drivers side, central lock will not work for passengers side. The bonnet also stays open, as I hope to replace a battery tomorrow.
If you manage to read on so far thank you very much, I will throw a few questions now
1. Is it for sure battery or can it be some immobiliser issues? I had a "attempted break-in" showing recently almost every time I start the car.
2. If this is battery, can I safely remove it tomorrow and leave overnight for re-charge? I have a friend with battery charger, he can help me sorting this out but I am just wary of the alarm going off when battery is out. People will lynch me if I leave a car with alarm on a sunday afternoon.
3. If the alarm will go off, is there a way to unplug alternative battery in an easy way?
4. Is passenger door being unlocked a normal thing? I assumed yes, as there is no way to close it with a key and it requires power source to lock, right?
Any help / advice greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long post but this was an eventful evening - Alfa always makes it all a bit more exciting.
