Brera 2.4 diesel turbo dropping pressure?
My beloved Brera has developed a (to me) rather odd problem that is affecting the turbo - when it does it the pressure seems to go to pot, causing the turbo to completely drop pressure to zero whenever you lift off the accelerator. Only ever on dual carriageway or motorway - which unfortunately I do ever day. Drives fine elsewhere but will suddenly go on the motorway. When reset it is fine but has tended to go ,( and needed turning off and back on) 3 or 4 times in my 25 miles motorway commute over last few weeks. Needless to say it won't do it at or near my garage out in the sticks!!
Turning engine off and back on again immediately cures it. If I don't, it runs sounding like the exhaust is blowing and is noticeably hot when you get out - although it seems to resEt itself it you stop in traffic for more than a few seconds (which is why it hasn't made it whilst it is doing it to the garage). No fault codes showing when code read done and the fact it does cure itself if you drive on til you stop suggests to me it is mechanical rather than a dodgy sensor etc.
Garage think it is possibly the air flow meter, the erg valve, or exhaust system baffling starting to go and something get stuck somewhere in the exhaust system - but quite rightly don't want to start changing things unless or until they are sure what it is (which may simply necessitate leaving it to get worse first). Worse case they think is the veins in the turbo may be going.
The car has done about 83k miles and is a 57 reg. it's the 210 version of the diesel. Otherwise running perfect.
If anyone has any ideas what this could be then any suggestions much appreciated!!
