Sorry! My mistake
used the wrong term there, (forgot the OEM filter on the alfa is not a panel!). Basically the OEM replacement version vs an induction kit.
The alfa seems to use the same air filter whichever engine you have, so you are more likely to get an advantage if you have an engine with a higher demand (your 2.4 compared to my 1.9 for instance).
An induction kit is normally a more efficient way of getting cool air into the engine, often an intake on the front of the car leads directly to the air filter (instead of a traditionally more convoluted, and warmer air for a standard air filter), and have a larger surface area (so less restriction) but often require more modding of the car for air inlets etc.
For most people, replacing the OEM filter with a K&N type will increase the air flow enough, unless you are serious modding!
