I love my Brera.......and Paintshield
Well, picked her up on Tuesday and boy did she look gorgeous, and by the end of the day she’d be guarantied to stay like that……Read on too see what I mean.
Got to Cambridge at about 0800 and was picked up by Anthony Smith of EMG Motor Group. The garage was very helpful and bent over backwards to ensure I was happy. Anyway at about 0845 I was the proud owner of a low mileage Alfa Romeo Brera in Alfa silver with 18” wire spoke alloys and not a stone chip in sight. The car is a real head turner and I feel after test driving every thing from a Focus ST to a Seat Leon FR diesel, I think I have made a really good decision to purchase such iconic car and it feels like it came straight from the heart. I’ve only got one problem so far. The display says “Alarm not available?” But should get this sorted very soon. I did something that baffled the dealer though? I totally covered the front end of the car with low tack masking tape to prevent any chips on my trip up north in search of eternal youth!
To protect my investment I had booked her in for a ‘facial’ with a company that specialised in maintaining the good looks of all sorts of automotive exotica. Paintshield at Grantham. I had decided to have the whole front-end covered in a 3M film which I’d previously put on my VX220 from new and would swear by it. I rang them up 2 weeks ago and talked to a guy called Tom Wakeford who was incredibly helpful and promised a top job. I checked the company out with Pistonheads and a few other forums like Porsche and Lamborghini, they all spoke very highly of the company and the service they had received so I booked her in on the Tuesday, the same day I picked her up, hence the face pack (masking tape – see attached picture).
Tom wasn’t there when I arrived but a fine chap called Joe talked me through the process and explained it would take about 6 hours. There was plenty to do with DVD’s to watch, Xbox games to play and stacks of car magazines to read. Before I knew it she was returned to me swathed in a transparent film that would keep her beautiful for along time to come.
The parts I had done were as follows; both wings, both mirrors, lower valance, bumper and bonnet. Literally from the door seams forward every thing was covered with only a single joint on the valance halfway across the front, which you can’t see! The only downside was that the film fell short of the top edge of the bonnet by about 6 inches. But this is hardly noticeable. This is due to the film being only available in 48” widths, but Joe tells me that by the end of the year it should be available in 60” widths so I’m booked in for the upgrade!
I can’t recommend this product and company enough. I looked at a lot of Brera’s before I bought this one and ALL had bad stone chips on the bonnet and bumper. Ask yourself this, 'Is prevention better that cure'…………I’d say a very big yes!
Anyway I’m off to enjoy the stares and people saying “Nice car mate!!”
Long live Alfa Romeo and Paintshield.
PS Tried uploading pictures but it kept saying "Failed" even though they are only 66kb?
