Was just about to post an update.
Had loads of things fixed on this car. Suspension: Two upper wishbones, one lower, one wheel bearing. Oils: Changed all oils including gearbox. Gearbox oil was clean, so nothing to indicate that bearings are worn. Gear lever movement likely caused by worn lower engine stabiliser, will have that fitted soon. Engine: Timing chain and balance chain both needed changing. Total damage: Way, way more than I bargained for.
Engine is now much quieter. No more creaks from suspension. But –I can still hear a whine (found a thread that suggested it is probably a pulley or alternator. With a youtube link that shows the exact same whine that increases with revs), and when I am on full lock, I can hear a slight knocking sound. I also hear a repetitive hollow sound coming from somewhere in front of me in the driver's seat.
I am wondering if there are more suspension issues, or perhaps steering rack issues. Hopefully it is the former.
