Tick Tock...

Hi All
Another Newbie question...
Under hard acceleration I hear a "rattling" or "ticking" noise from the engine bay. I'm assuming this is normal as my 2010 159 JTD has just had a service and only just passed 21,500km.
Is the noise I'm hearing the timing chain reacting to the hard acceleration?
The odd thing is I only hear if I'm driving with the window down and in a built up area where the sound can reflect off solid surfaces. No discernible noise when windows up. (Sound dampening material must work well!)
Thanks also to everyone for their comments and advice to date.

Prardon my cynicism, but wouldn't that just be the sound of a diesel anyway?

Diesels don't have a chain.

Might be one of the injector seals starting to leak, pull the top cover off and look for a sooty/oily build up around them and then with the engine running listen for a 'chuffing' sound and see if there is a smell of fuel or exhaust fumes
