Hello Guys

Here is a though one.

Anyone knows how to replace the Selespeed clutch actuation hydraulic system fuid? (TUTELA TOP 4 x 0,038 litres)

My Brera Selespeed owner´s manual indicates that it needs to be replaced every 2 years and transmission fluid checked every year (Selespeed Transmisión Fluid)

Kind Regards!

Marco

There are two caps on the selespeed. One big and one small. The small is for the hydraulic fluid (tutela CS speed resp. Dexron III, or better Liqui Moly zentralhydraulik ol, Total fluide LDS or other central hydraulic oil-fluid - must be synthetic) and the bigger cap is for clutchactuator fluid (tutela TOP 4) basically it is simple DOT 4 brake fluid. It will be black if it wasn't changed. Don't be scared. Just get it out with a syringe and replace it with new one. Change it in a week again so the system gets flushed of sludge. Oil for the gearbox itself is synthetic 75w85 gl4-gl4+ I use ELF tranself NFJ 75w80 g4+ It's simple enough to do at home.

Good luck.

Thank you very much for your reply Mate.

I just took out what I belive is the one containing DOT4, black cap underneath the battery. (Picture)
I cannot find the one containing the Selespeed Oil.

Please tell me this is the one containing the DOT 4 because I just replaced it with 0,038L of DOT 4 brake fluid

Thanks Gaincho.

Do I need to take the oil out from underneath the car? Where is the new CS speed oil added from? I cannot find a cap for the selespeed. The only cap I have seen is the one I took out to add DOT 4 (black one on the pictures )

I don't think there's a scheduled change requirement for the Tutela CS Speed hydraulic fluid. Unlike ordinary DOT 4 brake fluid, which needs to be changed every 2 years because it absorbs water.

As for the actual gearbox oil, that will need a change every 50,000km or so, check your owners manual for specific requirement for your car.

Any luck with your selespeed?

I have a 159 2.2 JTS selespeed and also looking for infor on how to replace the fluids.

From what I have read you need to

1) Check the transmissions control oil level every 30000km
2) Check level for the clutch actuation hydraulic system every 30000km
3) Replace the clutch actuation hydraulic fluid every 60,000kms or 2 years.

I can't find pictures or guides or anything on how to do this.
I found an eLearn manual but says nothing about the selespeed.

1. get the batery out
2. unbolt batery tray 3x bolt and out (unbolt ECU 3x bolt)
3. now you can see 1x torx bolt (T45 i think) on top of the gearbox
that is the refil bolt for the gearbox oil 3l of 75w85 gl4 or similar
4. on the bottom side of the gearbox is the bleeding bolt 10mm imbus - unscrew and voila gearbox oil is out
5. tighten the 10mm bolt back and pour new oil in 3l of 75w85 gl4 thru the T45 filler opening on top. Put bolt back in.
6. gearbox oil changed (M32 gearbox YouTube)
7. electro-hydraulic selespeed system.
8. big black cap DOT4 0.4dcl
9. small plastic cap on a 0.5l tank to the right is the hydraulic fluid
10. syringe with a tube-get old hydraulic fluid out
11. refill hydraulic fluid-im using Total fluide LDS there is a min mark on the left side of the tank-overfill doesnt matter it will get out thru the cap eventualy
12. batery tray back
13. batery back and reconnect
14. get a beer or coffe-tea

P.S: Engine undertray has to be removed or you will have gearbox oil everywhere.

Thanks for that list!

I'm in Australia and have a 159. I had 'check gearbox' warnings and gear changing performance dropped off and I followed Markus SVK's list to get to the Selespeed fluids (could they have made it harder?!) and it was perfect. I syringed out the grotty Dot 4, replaced it and the gearbox has been trouble free since with smoother changes than ever since I've owned it.

So thanks very much- great, simple and accurate set of directions that solved my problem over here!:thumbu p:

a bit confused here

Hello, I was reading a thread on different fluids for 159 2.2 JTS Selespeed, to be honest one time I was understanding stuff and another time, I got confused. My misunderstanding is what to use for selespeed oil and what oil to use for the selespeed manual gearbox (IS IT M32). I thought that the power steering oil is good for selespeed, is this true? Or DOT4 brake fluid is good enough for the selespeed, please can you clarify this to me, thanks.

I wouldn't use power steering oil for the Selespeed robot. I read somewhere in the manual I think, that ATF III can be used if nothing other is available, tried it and it is quite slow when cold. Works fine if warm. But changed it for synthetic Total Fluide LDS, which works much better and fulfills comparable norms as the Tutela CS fluid (works fine for the last 60tkm), both are quite similar (read the datasheet on both). And for the M32 box itself, the oil is 75w85 GL4 2.4L as per manual. 3L are recommended. The box can get hot and the top bearings are not lubricated enough with 2.4L of oil. The internet is full of M32 boxes dying and some explanations why. Just type in "M32 gearbox" and you can see for your self. As described above I use a 75w80 GL4+ oil and change it every 30-40tkm. Must be full synthetic!

So:
gearbox:
75w85 GL4 2.4L (manual) or 75w80/85 full synthetic GL4/4+ 3L (recommended)

Selespeed robot:

clutch actuator: 0,38dcl DOT 4 (big black cap)
hydraulic system: 0.5L Tutela CS or comparable synthetic hydraulic fluid (Total Fluide LDS in my case)
